Stay Fit This Winter

While it may be easy to hide those extra pounds under thick coats and sweaters, it may be wiser to stay in shape throughout the year, and while we may not be able to control the weather we can have some control of our mood. Exercising is said to be one of the best ways to improve your mood and combat the winter blues. Studies show that exercising helps boost your feel-good endorphins, making you happier. So why not choose the option of staying fit and happy. Below is a list of easy, fun ways to stay fit during the winter.

JUMPING JACKS

This old throwback move offers a great fun cardio workout. You can do it while watching television. In no time, you will work up a good sweat.

WATER BOTTLE WEIGHTS

ID-100188925Strengthen your arms, shoulders, and back with store bought dumbbells or homemade options of water bottles filled with water or something heavier like sand or stones depending on the weight you are looking for. Standing straight, look ahead and keep your hands straight by your side. With your core tight, lift both arms up, elbow in, until they are parallel to the floor. Hold this position for a few seconds and gently bring your hands back to their original position. Repeat this 12 times and then take a thirty second break before your next repetition.

THE PLANK

Get into a push-up position, but instead of bending your arms and moving down towards the floor, hold the position with your arms extended. Tuck your toes in. HIGH KNEES

High knees are a great leg, cardio and core workout. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart. Jump from one foot to the other while lifting your knees as high as possible and dropping on the balls of your feet. The aim should be to lift your knees to the height of your hips. Allow your arms to raise in unison. Do this for 20 seconds before taking a 10 second break. Repeat 6 times.
